Hook Bell prop build by YelZamor
Hook Bell prop build
Greetings, persons

The fact that yours truly has developed a passion for costumes and prop-building does travel.
My sister requested some help in sorting out a costume for her man. The man, apparently, plans to attend a party next month dressed up as a sea captain. Neither of them were happy with a floppy rubber hook, and asked if I could construct a new one. Only too happy to help them out. :0 Great practice for me also.

1 - I created a pattern based on their measurements; 32cm fist circumference (divided into six), and ~17cm height.
2 - Cardboard mock up to check the final shape.
3,4 - Assembled the parts using Worbla covered foam.
5,6 - The hook bell looked plain to me, so I offered them decorative embellishments evocative of a sea compass.
7 - I wanted to mix the textures on the bell; the smoother, polished decorative elements (coated with a few layers of woodglue) against the rough, battered metal of the bell (left without primer).
8 - Base colours painted in.
9, 10 - Weathering! I mixed varying amounts of black with the base colour. Top tip: wet-mixing and layering acrylics works best.

:) Quickie build this week.
Celtic Sword Design by YelZamor
Celtic Sword Design
Greetings, persons!

My dA has been a little quiet, but rest assured, I've been as creative as ever. Many arts; comic colours, graphics work for Board Game Online and two costume projects.
Here's a design for a Celtic sword prop for Project A. The comic is set during a specific time in history, so I've been conducting extensive research on what these people wore, their customs, weapons and beliefs.
The sword design is very close to weapons attributed to this historical period; particularly the anthropomorphic hilts that were very popular at this time due to their 'talismanic significance'.
I'm building the base out of foamboard and cardboard, with a wooden core for rigidity. I'll smooth the prop and add the details with Worbla. :)

Greetings, peeps,

Another poster for next week's 'Dublin International Comics Expo' (DICE - 27th - 28th September).
Yet more warm browns and golds in my palette. :) Worked to steer away from the usual harshly outlined shadows on the faces and aimed instead for subtle, soft and realistic shading. Kept in mind areas where to keep the skin matte and where to bring out some shine (such as the nose and lips). I learn about colouring as much as about drawing when working inks like these.

Lineart by Gary Erskine.
Colours by me, Yel Zamor.

Here's a rough sketch of an Obsidian magic dog for Saturday's render session. I had a bit of audio trouble in today's livestream, so bring along your own music. My microphone will be open for mumbling commentary and chat interaction. :3

Spurred on by half-mumbled interest and a handful of positive votes in my recent poll, looks like a small group of you would like to watch a livestream. I've set up my broadcast channel and have given it a test run. It seems to behave, so far. So, let's give it a go, guys.

You're kindly invited to watch me pootle about with Art.
Time - Saturday 22nd June, 19:00 (UK TIME)
Place - YZ's livestream channel

Later this week, I'll post a rough sketch of what I plan to render on Saturday, to help you decide if it's of interest.
