:bulletred: Beware! Herein lie bad words and spoilers for Metal Gear Solid 4

EDIT: 15th of August 2008

GOD F******* C*** B****** PIECE OF S*** YOUF*****TUBE!

God damnit! You have no idea, people.
No sodding clue.

:bulletblue: The Metal Gear Solid 4 cut scenes, which I watched completely engrossedly for the past two days, are absolutely beautiful. Never did I expect a game world to be so emotionally intense. Neither did I expect the story to draw me in and hold my attention, even through countless minutes of exposition monologues. You fall asleep. Zzzzzzz.

:bulletblue: Old Snake is fantastic. While his younger self, with his gruff exterior and the creeping five o’clock shadow looks just like any other one note action hero out there, his silver-haired counterpart automatically exudes history. He’s been there, killed that… and has returned to fight yet another day. Yesterday's fight is behind his eyes.

:bulletblue: I’ve never played the game… guilty…nor do I think it likely that by some miracle the massively overpriced PS3 console shall drift in through the window. Thus, I watched the cut scenes like a multi-part film.

‘Ok, I’ll watch till 1 am. That’ll do.’

‘Mkay… five more for symmetry.’

‘Meh.. let’s finish this Act. Really can’t leave that dangling till tomorrow now can we?’

‘That one was only a minute long, I guess one more won’t hurt.’

‘Oh bugger that, I’ll watch till 4 am.’

‘Hay! Shamaun, I’ll finish this today! I’ll be sleep-deprived tomorrow, but happy.’

:bulletblue: Gosh damnit, it just drew me in.. with all its addictive angsty goodness, inescapably, for hours. The fights were detailed with elegant choreography, with the mechas and cyborgs satisfying my sci-fi itch. The villains were cheesily overdramatic, hey.. we wouldn’t have them any other way. The heroes were heroic.

:bulletblue: The plot rolled downwards along a slippery slope, inevitably approaching its darkest point. It was tragic, really. We watched the hero fall and stumble and then get up again, only to be shaken back down into the dirt. I felt myself moved…absurdly, by a few well-placed pixels and computer code.

:bulletred: Here we were, Old Snake and I, at the story’s darkest point; we’d journeyed thus far through the shadows together. Soon, there shall be the release, a resolution. What embarrassment there was for being this taken by a fictional character, I shoved out of the way by Act Five. To Hell with it! I wanted to be moved. I wanted a film make me feel something. … for once.

Old Snake lying there, shattered, half-dead. Otacon’s words passing unheard. A solitary ghostly voice promising everlasting rest.

…One more part and I’d have been bawling my sodding eyes out.

…and then…

…and then!

only the worst thing EVAR happened

Yes, you might have guessed it…

;_;

:bulletred: I discovered that the whole of the finale were pulled by YouTube. F**K! F*****G B******S! Have they nothing better to bloody do?! Ten parts, wiped out.

GOD DAMNIT!

:bulletred: Thanks for destroying an experience, Viacom.
Thanks to you countless Indy films won’t get discovered. Those overseas television programmes can kiss word-of-mouth goodbye. Thanks to you, Viacom, their DVDs won’t be bought. I’m not even talking about games here.

I believe this is what it feels to be screwed.

You reap what you sow…in time it will return to you, Viacom.

Feferishly Yours,
~Yel.
P.S. Actually it IS kinda funny.
Ah well... I can go back to despising people again.
P.P.S. If anyone can find the ending of Act Five as well as the whole of the Finale, please let me know.

Actually, as much as I hate Viacom, it was KONAMI themselves who took off most of the ending videos. If you haven't found the end cutscenes yet, there's bound to be somebody who uploaded them, like, RIGHT NOW, so they haven't been pulled. That's how I saw them. Dude put 'em up, like a day before I saw them.

lol
And this entire time, I was avoiding reading this journal because I thought you'd seen the whole thing. It's the reason why I did exactly as you did, watched everything on the YT. I thought you had bought the game and played through it or something. What an interesting coincidence, we may have even viewed the same dude's videos! 0_0

But, yeah, I have to agree with you. I freaking loved every second of it. As convoluted and cheesey as it could get sometimes, I loved all of it's confusing cheddarness.
It made me happier than Dark Knight, it did, it did.

Goddamnit, Cheddar...
You're making me happy in your fannish squeeing. :D

I freaking loved every second of it.

It was just amazing, wasn't it? There had been your great adventure click games like Monkey Island, but never have we had our hearts just wrenched out like that. It really was such an involved story that just drew you in. Honestly, don't know about you, but I skipped very few monologues; most of them kept me genuinely interested to find out more about that world.

It's the reason why I did exactly as you did, watched everything on the YT.

*gigglesnort* Are you saying that my insane ramblings made you watch the videos? :D Sounds like you're glad you did :3. Yes, we might have seen the same dude.. the channel that I was watching was missing the entire epilogue as well as the part after Solid blacks out.

If you want to relive some of that angst, do search MGS4 OST (sound track) on youtube. I promise you, it will gut you yet again. Well.. unless you're a manly man. ;3 Look up Sorrow, Rebellion Rests...and of course, Old Snake. That last track really epitomises what Solid is inside.

Haunting echoes of past battles, mingling with the urgency of a heroic beat... and above that.. a tragic twangy guitar. All I could think of was 'yes, that is what Snake is'. The composed track is just amazing, yet another unexpected discovery; a representation of a character through music.. and so accurately too.

Ok, I'll shut up now. <3 <3 <3

~Yel.
P.S. It made me happier than Dark Knight, it did, it did.
Oh mi gosh man, I agree with you 100%! :D It really did.. by goodness, oh yeah!

Oh, I've already downloaded a good portion of the MGS4 OST. Not to mention MGS music in general.

Yup, that's where he stopped. I had to search for Act 5 specifically from then on. That crawling scene was intense! MICROWAVES.

Actually, it was because you wrote "MGS4 SPOILERS" and I was like, "Shit, I need to watch that game before I start drawing Old Snake or I'll never be able to read anything Yel writes ever again! 0_0"

Lawl! <3
Yeah, fannish gushly squeeing ahoy.
:3 Yeah, I'm a fan of quality game music anyway (the old style super mario theme being my favourite). MGS music really is brilliant, all of that content seems fantastically unsurpassed.

That..or I am terribly ignorant of the gaming genre in general.

What did you think of the James Bondesque 'Snake Eater' theme song? ;3
I keep walking around the house, randomly belting out 'Someday.. you might walk through the raaaaain, Someday.. you might feed on a treefroooog'.. then catch myself sounding completely doolally. XD
What other tracks would you recommend? ;3

That room is full of microwaves!

I was never a fan of French quisine. :P
Microwaved Snake... jeeze ;_;. That whole sequence hurt. When he blacked out, after the virus wiped the A.I... I completely expected him to die right there. That's why it was such a crushing disappointment for YouTube to cut out at such a crucial moment! You know, sometimes you just need to know how a deeply angsty story ends, otherwise it just hangs over you for days.

But yeah, the missing parts of Act 5 correspond to part 43 or so on that site I linked.

Yeah, Snake Eater is just tons of fun and an accurate homage to James Bond. The end credits music to MGS2 is "Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday" and it's a great jazzy piece. The Metal Gear Solid theme itself is actually one of my favorite series themes; the version for MGS3 being my fave.

If you're interested in VG music, you should check out OverClocked ReMix. ---> [link] <--- The artists there have remixed tons of videogame themes into many different genres. Mostly electronica/techno stuff but there is a broad array of styles from rock to hip hop even.

Interestingly enough, Big Boss would probably love microwaved snake.

The jazzy song was really quite nice, thank you for pointing it out! ;3
Hey, thank you for the game remix link, it looks like geek heaven! I shall definitely be poking around there <3.

Interestingly enough, Big Boss would probably love microwaved snake.

*giggle* Yeah! I was watching Let's play MGS3 on YouTube, and yes there was more than one occasion where BB nommed on some tasty snake. I'm half-tempted to try one myself. :3 X3 It seems as though you can catch and eat just about anything in Snake Eater. ;3

we just need to pull down Viacom somehow. i wouldn't even know how. it's not like a boycott would work. :(

...A boycott would mean boycotting everything.
Still, Mike Mozart (of jeepersmedia on YouTube.. only the best channel there.. apart from your puggalicious one) seems to report that their stock shares are down... or was it the weekly media tv (someone who made 'YouTube vs Viacom'.. or something).

Download an flv player, then you can save YouTube videos to your computer and watch them later... means you won't lose them when they get pulled, and won't have to waste bandwidth when rewatching those same videos online. ^_________^ <3
